How to manage templates

A good template can be used again and again. Become familiar with your templates screen and all that it has to offer.

VMA Emailer supports both body_text and body_html in our emails. Templates in HTML can be used over and over in your emails.

My Templates

The "My Templates" tab will display templates saved in your account. By clicking on the "eye" icon you can preview any template and see how it might generally appear on any desktop or mobile device.

Drafts

The "Drafts" tab will show all the templates that were saved as drafts from the campaign creator. Editing a template here and saving it will add that specific template to your "My Templates" tab.

Gallery

We offer a gallery of pre-designed templates that you can customize. To use a free pre-designed template from the Gallery, choose "Copy and Edit" then save the template. This will add the template to your "My Templates" section.

Editors

If you want to create a template from scratch, you can do so by choosing "Create Template", and then choose either "Email Designer" or "Raw HTML".

The Email Designer will give you a default layout and design. The default options allow you to set a Template Name and attach a default From Email Address, From Name, and Subject. The "Design" tab lets you customize general text, links, and header styles. The "Layout" tab contains layout boxes that can be dragged over and dropped into the template. Clicking in the layout box in the template will provide additional options to edit the layout box and its contents. The Email Designer creates responsive templates. The mobile tab will show you what your template will look like on a mobile device.

The "Edit Text Body" option allows you to provide a body_text for the email in case a recipient mail server only accepts body_text. Your account has a setting that is on by default to auto-generate a text body from an HTML template.  You can find this setting in your Sending Settings.

From within the Email Designer editor, you can send a "Test" to see how the template looks in an email.

For users who are know how to script in HTML the RAW HTML Editor allows you to build a template completely from scratch.

Additional Options

Additional Options include Litmus Testing, editing an existing template in Email Designer, editing an existing template in RAW HTML, setting template defaults where there is also an option to set the template as the default to be used when creating a new template in the Email Designer, and Copying a template.
